The architecture found in Mexico is one of the most complete and beautiful in the world, since in addition to telling the history of the country over the years, it also demonstrates a mixture of cultures and styles that were brought from other parts of the planet. such as the considered neo-Gothic movement, which emerged in England in the 18th and 19th centuries, until the Middle Ages and its monumental Gothic structures, such as the Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris.
The word “Gothic” comes from the word “Gothic”, which denotes the style of the barbarians, the components of which seemed confused and uninteresting in comparison with the classics. These beautiful constructions arrived in Mexico during the government of Porfirio Díaz, and in Mexico City you can find many examples of this style, which reflect the nostalgia for the past that started this movement. Guadalajara’s cathedral
Also known as the Basílica de la Asunción de María Santísima, it is the seat of the Archdiocese of Guadalajara and one of the most representative buildings in the city due to its embroidered neo-Gothic towers and its rich history. His style also combines neoclassical and baroque styles along with the Gothic style due to cultural influences acquired over the years.
Penitential Temple of the Sacred Heart of Jesus
Located in the historic center of León, Guanajuato, this work began in 1921 and the last details were finished in 2012. Some of the main characteristics of the genre are the needle-shaped towers and their curved or pointed arches. Also, one of the biggest draws are the seven 12-meter-deep catacombs below. A labyrinth of chapels and corridors that contains just over 1,900 crypts with human remains.
Mathuala Cathedral
The Italian architect Adamo Borey was based on the plans of Gaspard Andre, who built the Church of Saint Joseph of Broto in Lyon, France; However, at the beginning of the construction there was a setback – in 1910, during the Revolution – when the plans were lost. Its neo-Gothic façade leads to the entrance with ten stone steps and a monumental clock, in addition to the masonry having three naves separated by elaborate pilasters. The peculiarity is that it is an exact copy of the Church of San José de León in France.
Tepic Cathedral
It is the Catholic temple of the Diocese of Tepic in Nayarit. It is located in front of the main square in the city center and is famous for its neo-Gothic façade. It has a single nave in the shape of a Latin cross, its length is 58 meters, its width 12.5 meters and the height of the furthest point from the vault to the ground is 16.5 meters. of the vaults is completed with an octagonal dome with eight windows. The towers are about 40 meters high from street level, supported by a portico that gives access to three Gothic arches, one to the north, one to the south and one to the west.
